I recently decided to research what it would take to record 8 tracks of my band, live on our gigs with equipment already in my possession. I concluded that I could use the Inserts on my Yamaha MGP16X mixer as Direct Outs to send eight channels of audio, pre-fader and pre-eq, to my Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 USB audio interface. I’ve also purchased some specialized Insert Jack/Direct Out cables to accomplish this.
The 18i6 is connected to my iPhone 6s Plus via the Lightning CCK (Camera Connection Kit). But, what app should I use to capture this audio in real time? After disappointing experiences with several recording apps, I suddenly remembered that I had purchased the MultiTrack DAW app but had never tried it because my previous live recordings used the RODE iXY-L stereo mic paired either with the RODE Rec app or Apogee’s MetaRecorder.
After working with MultiTrack DAW for several hours of test recordings and transfers, I’m convinced that I will get reliable, high quality, consistent results on my band’s gigs which will very easily load into Logic Pro X on my MacBook Pro for mixing and mastering.
I’m really pleased to discover how powerful yet simple MultiTrack DAW is to use. Thank you for creating such a well thought out, flexible and reliable multi-track recording solution for iOS.
